Pet Owners Will Spend Nearly $32 Billion on Pets

Pets are pampered more and more. Cushy kennels with sofas, tv, and stereo, massages, play dates, and grooming are growing in popularity. Pampered Pets are given Valentine's, birthday cards, and Christmas gifts. Birthday parties, weddings and funerals have owners paying hundreds of dollars per event. Pets have therapists, acupuncturists, veterinarians who specialize , dog whispers, and behavioral specialists.

Recent news told us of Leona Helmsley's bequeath to her dog of $ 12 million dollars and of Japan’s nursing homes for your pet, acupuncturists and special dog ramen .

According to CBSnews.com in a report on February 2006 Americans had spent 2.5 billion dollars last year on their pampered pets. This was double the amount spent in the previous five years. Eighty percent of Americans with pets consider themselves "pet parents" and because the pet is considered family they are willing to spend the money to make them happy. "Parents" are willing to spend money on pet products such as perfume, spa products, pet beauty products, massage oil, special treats and pet food to name a few. There are approximately 78 million cats and 65 million dogs in the U.S. today and analysts predict that their owners will spend 32 billion dollars this year on keeping them comfortable, well, and nurished. One pet owner admitted to spending upwards of $5000.00 ( not including a medical bill of over $1700.00) a year to clothe, feed, pay vet fees, and pamper her pets.

Marshall Field's Department Store in Chicago boasts a ritzy pet boutique called Down Town Dog, where you can purchase elegant collars, leather jackets, crystal studded leashes, and Burbury pet carriers which can' t keep up with the demand. Sorry you'll have to special order.

Mazzu's Canine & Feline Hotel in Philadelphia caters to your pampered pet's every need. Cool spa colors and lavender scents to reduce stress, rock wall for your cat to get back to nature, room service serving filet mignon to Rover in a carpeted suite just to name a few of their luxurious amenities. Owners are happy to pay the $125.00 a night ( special meals are extra the steak was $22.00). They say it's worth it to give their dogs and cats a pleasant experience while away from home. The average stay is five days.

Certain hotels for humans are getting into the act a New York hotel has a $1600.00 package which includes a limo ride for your dogs ride to a recording studio, where a voice coach will help them cut their first CD. They can "sing" with a guitarist, harmonica player or karaoke machine. Package includes hotel room.

When your pampered pet becomes a senior they can be checked in to a pet nursing home like the New York based Bide-a-Wee. It costs $15,000.00 for the lifetime of the pet.

Genesis Reworded

On the first day of creation, God created the cat....

On the second day, God created man to serve the cat....

On the third day, God created all the animals of the earth to serve as

potential food for the cat....

On the fourth day, God created honest toil so that man could labor

for the good of the cat....

On the fifth day, God created the sparkle ball so that the cat might

or might not play with it....

On the sixth day, God created veterinary science to keep the cat

healthy and the man broke....

On the seventh day, God tried to rest, but He had to scoop the litterbox....

Yes, it's a cat's world after all. Amen!

TIP OF THE WEEK

Pamper your older pet with heated bedding. This is especially good for arthritic dogs or cats with joint problems. If you don't have a heated bed, add a warm water bottle to your pet's bed or apply it directly to aching joints.

IN THE NEWS

Facebook Introduces Catbook and Dogbook

Facebook, the social online networking site, has gone to the dogs and cats .

This is thanks to a Canadian advertising executive Geoffrey Roche, and his son Alexandre.

In the last three months their idea for Dogbook and Catbook has blossomed and there are now over 700,000 pet members on their Dogbook and Catbook sites.

Pet owners are rushing to their computers to publish photos and videos of their beloved pets.

Why the hoopla?

Most people now see their pets as members of the family and wish to share them with the world.

It also has become a another way for people to meet without disclosing their whole life online.

Cat Gets Hosed !

A frightened cat in was stranded in a tree for a week, hanging on to the limbs for dear life, while well meaning bystanders tried to lure it down by beating on cans of cat food.
Several people tried to climb the tree and get the cat but weren’t able to reach high enough to grab the feline.
Finally the Fire Department was called to extract the distraught cat from its lofty prison.
The firefighters decided to use a high powered fire hose to eject the cat.
Those gathered around held a sheet to catch the cat and the firefighters sprayed the cat dislodging it from its perch.
The volunteers below caught the distraught and somewhat indignant cat.

The cat immediately jumped from the sheet and ran away. Several kids in the crowd caught the cat and brought it back.

The crowd of 50 or more people cheered loudly and one bystander stepped forward and adopted the cat.
